Our Spiritual Lineage

lahiri-mahasaya1

Original (?) Lahiri Mahasaya photo, discovered in Serampore at an ashram founded by a disciple of Sri Yukteswar, and now run by Anandaji.

In comparing this photo with the oval-framed photo, which until now has been called the original, there are three noteworthy differences:
* In this photo (not seen in this cropping) far more of the tiger skin that Lahiri was sitting on is visible.
* The oval “frame” was almost certainly not a part of the original exposure of Lahiri – so there must have been a plate without this oval, such as this one.
* There is considerably better clarity of Lahiri’s features in this photo.

For all these reasons, it seems likely that this photograph is at least closer to the “original” than the oval-framed photograph which until now has been called the “original.”
