Saturday, July 21 Noon: Depart from our Chico Center for carpool to Ananda Palo Alto Community
Guru Retreat 6-10pm
Guru is Sanskrit meaning “to lead out of darkness.” India has had a long tradition of passing spiritual truths from teacher to student, from guru to disciple. In tonight’s retreat Asha guides us in an evening of inspiring stories and music celebrating the life and teachings of the gurus particular to Ananda. Learn about Paramhansa Yogananda, one of the most well-known spiritual teachers of the past century, as well as his own lineage of teachers: Swami Yukteswar, Lahiri Mahasaya, Babaji, and Jesus Christ. If you have read Autobiography of a Yogi and thrilled to the stories of these saints’ lives, you will have the opportunity to feel their presence and spirit in this special evening of stories, chanting, and meditating outdoors in the community courtyard, visiting shrines dedicated to each of the gurus. Chairs are provided, or you can bring your own meditation seating. Bring a blanket and dress in layers, in case the evening becomes cool.
We will be staying the night as guests of members of the Ananda Community, therefore advance reservations are required.
Sunday, July 22
Attend Sunday Service at Ananda Palo Alto with the highly inspiring Nayaswami Asha in their lovely, large, and expansive temple (formerly a Catholic church).

Lunch is on your own after Sunday Service before making the return trip to Chico.
These events are free, but it would be dharmic to make a donation to the Ananda community and share in gas costs.
