Sunday Service

Our Sunday Service is a non-sectarian worship service based on the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda, author of the spiritual classic, Autobiography of a Yogi. People of all traditions are welcome.

Purification Ceremony,  10:00 – 10:30 AM

The purification ceremony is a personal fire ceremony that involves writing a problem or a negative trait on a slip of paper. After a brief meditation, we come up to the altar one at a time to pray for purification. We ask for God’s grace, then light our paper and watch the negative in our lives burn into ashes. Afterwards, we sit and continue to meditate, feeling the power of purification.  We also pray for others as they go to the altar to be purified.

When we have a visiting Ananda Lightbearer, we go up to the Lightbearer to pray and be blessed first, before going up to the altar and offering our prayer into the burning bowl. On special occasions, we include a vedic fire ceremony with ancient chants and special purification offerings.
